Trauma-Sensitive Instructional Language
1 PD hr (register in PD+)
As educators, we know that more and more of our students are experiencing trauma. But we rarely know what those traumas are, and more importantly, what we can do to help.
Our job is to teach kids, but our purpose is to help kids develop as well-rounded, healthy, and stable people. Unfortunately, some of our best teaching strategies can become an obstacle to learning for kids living with trauma or post-traumatic injury. Even worse, we can unintentionally re-traumatize our students, making it even more difficult for them to heal and to learn.
This training will teach you to understand how trauma expresses itself in the body and how we can make small but significant changes to our instruction that will help ALL kids work through those traumas, to open up to learning. You won't use these strategies all the time, but when you do, it will begin to dissolve the messages of trauma, and replace them with messages of hope.
Please come prepared to take notes, ask questions, and apply these strategies to your own upcoming lesson.
OPEN to all educators and caregivers who work with kids.
